Experience sustainable development in an avant-garde organic farm; learn in a natural rural vista surrounded by the Mountains Taygetos and Parnonas and the rich splendor of the Laconic Gulf. Experts on the field of sustainability will intertwine with ancient olive groves and organic farming methods. The main goal of the seminar is to promote awareness on sustainable living, as well as provide basic knowledge of the tools and methods to achieve this.

We wish to invite you to join Eumelia’s Educational Program through our Grundtvig course on Sustainable Development (STEADY – Simulation for Trainers in Environmentally Amicable Development & Youth) in Laconia, Greece. Experience sustainable development in an avant-garde organic farm; learn in a natural rural vista surrounded by the Mountains Taygetos and Parnonas and the rich splendor of the Laconic Gulf. Travel to the island of Elafonisos and contribute to its development through the creation of a project proposal. Experts on the field of sustainability will intertwine with ancient olive groves and organic farming methods. Modern educational tools will embrace Greek cuisine, genuine rural inhabitants and the long historic precedence of the Laconic landscape.

The courses are geared towards Train-the-Trainer techniques to enhance the professional prospects of beneficiaries. We are happy to announce that Cities For People by Jan Gehl is now out in portuguese.

August 22 the book was officially launched at Livraria Bookstore at the Architectural Institute in Sao Paulo and it was a joy to experience the many people that came to the talk by Helle Søholt and participated in the following debate.

Composting in the city can be done! Whether you have a yard live in a tiny apartment with no yard, here are some interesting and fun facts about “composting in the city.”

What is composting: It is a process that occurs when microorganisms, like bacteria and fungi, digest organic matter such as leaves, grass, and food scraps. The by-products of composting are heat, water vapor, and carbon dioxide, and at the end of the process you are left with a nutrient rich, soil-like substance called com post.

Why should someone start a compost bin: Composting has a lot of great environmental, physical, chemical, and biological benefits; it reduces the amount that you throw away due to distasteful orders, and fruit flies caused by rotting food.
